Registrations are normally held from the end of June to mid July. Like any sport, it takes time to organize the teams, coaches and equipment so we need to have everyone signed up before the end of July. However, we won't turn away kids that want toplay football even if they are signed up late.
It is best to have them come. We weigh and measure all the kids for the sake of team selections. It helps to have consistent information.
There are several factors involed with how teams are put together. The first is, if a kid is a returning player in that particular league or age level (3-4th grade A league or 5-6th grade AA league), they will play on the same team as last year. The second is weight. After putting all the returning players on their team, we will "even out" the size of the teams based off weight. The third is that we try to take into account height and experience as best as possible.
If your kid is new in that age group or league, they are placed on teams based off the above criteria.
Usually the end of the week or weekend before the equipment handouts (1st or 2nd week in August). It takes a little time to set the teams up, meet with all the coaches and also take care of some late sign ups. All coaches are a little different, some will start calling the kids the second they get their rosters, other will take a couple days to start calling.
It is my desire to keep teams as even as possible and to make sure that team selections are as fair as possible. to do this, it is important that we stick to our team selection process as best as possible. All requests will be looked at but will not be honored if it will harm the integrety of the team selections. It is our experience that, more times than not, these request are made with ulterior motives, regardless of what the request is.
In short, go ahead and make the request, I won't promise anything.
For 2nd-6th grade, Games are typically played weeknights Monday-Thursday. We do not play on fridays, we want everyone to go watch Coon Rapids High school play. We do have occasional Saturday games as necessary. Traveling games are on both weeknights and weekends. Figure on 2 games a week (usually) for 2nd-6th grades and 2-3 games a week for traveling.
Practices are up to the coaches discression. They will comunicate with parents their practice schedule. Figure that (for the most part) the older they get, the more they will practice.
YES!!! We want them to have equipment that fits. It will be safer for them and they will have more fun in equipment that fits.
In traveling football, we basically play similar communities that the high school does. So most of the traveling games are in neighboring cities like Blaine, Champlin, Mounds View or Andover. In our league, it is rare that we will have an away game that is further away than that. You might see something like Big Lake or White Bear but we don't travel to Brainerd or Duluth.
